THE BEST PASSWORD - HOW TO CREATE STRONG PASSWORDS

The Password is the key to your Personal Resources. When the Internet was in its nascent stages, registering for a Password was a breeze.

Today, if you have registered with Free Web Mail service provider, you would be made to understand that Passwords are very important.

First they will make sure you are not a spammer by informing you that the ID is already taken. Second, they will ask you to squint at barely visible curly fonts, and enter them in the text box provided.

Increasing Net threats and We-based Crimes have jeopardized the convenience of the Internet experience. There is no simple Solution to this problem. Simply put, you need to take care that your Password remains a closely guarded Secret.

The Security of your Password depends on many factors. One of the most important factors is the manner, in which your Computer Stores your Password. Some Computers Store Passwords as plain Text.

In that case, the only thing a Hacker needs to do, is to lay hands on the Password File in your Computer, and all your Passwords are laid bare for the Hacker to manipulate.

However, some Computers store Passwords after encrypting them, (that is storing them in Coded form), so that the real Password cannot be found.

So the Security of your Password in the second type of System referred to are obviously better. Secondly, if you have brought a new System, replace the Default Password (Passwords created by the manufacturer) with your Password immediately.

Now, how do we go about creating a strong Password ?

It is simple. Just follow the set of Rules given below:

  • In your effort to create a strong Password, your foremost aim should be to have a Password that is most difficult to guess. Try Brainstorming. Think lateral. Come up with something that makes the Hacker wrack his Brain.
  • Do not have your Personal Information - say for example your Name, your Date of Birth, Name of a close Relative, your Spouse, your Pet’s name, your Driving License number, or something similar as your Password, or even as part of your Password – Ever.
  • Let your Password contain at least 7 to 8 characters (characters here refers alphabets and numbers).
  • Have a mixture of alphabets and numbers ( for example – ROB32); upper and lower case letters.
  • Apart from alphabets and numbers, have other characters or symbols ( like @, %, &,! etc) also included in your Password.
  • Do not use Names or Words, which are commonly used by many people. Hackers use programs that contain lists of common Passwords, Names, Words etc.
  • When you are changing your Password, let it be entirely different from the old one.

Now, assume you have a Password confirming to the above said rules. That alone is not enough. You have to Protect your Password from falling into wrong hands, even by accident.

So here’s how:

  • Do not write down your Password anywhere.
  • Do not share your Password with anybody.
  • Keep changing your Password as frequently as possible or at regular intervals.

In the unfortunate event of compromise of your Password, change it immediately.
