How Can I Protect Against Trojans ?A Trojan Horse is a Program that seems to be legitimate, you Download it thinking it will do the thing it says it will but actually the Trojan installs damaging code onto your Computer.
A Trojan is a nasty File that hides inside an innocent looking File, a wolf in sheep’s clothing if you will.
So what is a Trojan Horse ?
It’s very easy to Download a Trojan by accident, and they are very nasty! You could Download some Music form the Internet and end up installing a Trojan.
Some Files even perform properly, you may be able to listen to the Music, and so you may be unaware your Computer is affected with a Trojan until it’s too late.
The Trojan Horse is designed to provide a backdoor into your Computer, it’s like a ‘Client Server’ Program, the Hacker can simply log onto the File inside your Computer and start to have a mooch around.
A Trojan Horse can give a Hacker access to anything stored on your Computer they can Download your documents, alter your documents or even delete your documents. But it’s not just your documents that are at threat!
The Hacker could also turn on your Webcam and start watching you, scary huh?! But more worryingly is that many Trojan Viruses include Key Logging Software.
This Key Logging Software can be used to find out your Passwords, and even your Credit Card numbers! Just think what would happen if someone got hold of your Credit Card number, its expiry date and even the little number on the back by your signature. The person is obviously going to be using your Credit Card to make some purchases.
So how should you protect against Trojan Horses ?
Removing a Trojan Horse is very difficult, prevention is better than cure. You should be very careful what you Download, and where you Download it from.
If you start Downloading warez (full illegal Copies of Programs) or Porn for example, then you are at far more risk than if you Download more legitimate Programs.
Trojan Horses are so difficult to remove correctly that often the easiest way is to format your Computer and start all over it’s the only way you can defiantly get rid of the Trojan Horse.
But the problem with this is that it wastes a lot of time, and if you aren’t capable of doing it yourself then you will need to speak to someone who is.
There is some Software that is designed to remove Trojan Horses. Many Antivirus Software can remove some Trojans, but will never suggest that they can - just in case they can’t. You may need to use a wide array of different Tools to successfully remove any Trojans.
The best way is to be very careful about what you Download, and where you Download from, this way you hopefully will never have to deal with the stress caused by Trojans!
