Do I Need An Antivirus Program ?We are sure most Users of the Internet is aware of what a Computer Virus is. Computer Viruses have made a regular appearance on the News so it should be difficult not to know something about Computer Viruses.
Just in case you don’t know - a Computer Virus is like a Human Virus, only it affects Computers! It is usually made by somebody just to cause havoc with their Computers. A Virus simply makes your Computer do something that it shouldn’t do and that you don’t want it to.
Almost everybody knows what a Virus is, so why exactly do so many people not bother to Install an Antivirus Program ? We guess people just assume that Viruses will never affect them, but we are sad to say, that if you use the Internet there is a big risk, that sometime Viruses will cause you problems.
Viruses are the second most common cause of Computer Problems, the most common cause is just people messing about with what they don’t understand!
The main reasons you need an Antivirus Program are:
A Virus Scanner is a necessary Software Program, especially if you intend to use the Internet. Before the Internet was so popular, Viruses were not such an issue, but now Viruses can easily spread to Thousands of Computers that are all connected to the Internet.
Whenever a Virus infects somebody’s Computer, the way it affects the Computer depends on that particular Virus. By definition a Virus is anything that makes the Computer do something that it shouldn’t do.
So a Virus could be fairly innocent and pop up a message, or it could be much more dangerous. Whatever the person who made the Virus designed it to do. If you fail to properly protect from Viruses, then you could find yourself without the use of your Computer for several days.
Computer Viruses are very hard to fix even for professional Computer Technicians, in fact normally the easiest and quickest way if you get a bad Virus is to format and reinstall your operating system from start.
Of course most Viruses are not that much of a problem, and they cause less serious problems. You can normally install Antivirus Software after contracting the Virus and still be able to remove it. One of our Customers had one very clever Virus a few years back that didn’t even let him get onto any of the Websites for Antivirus Programs, so he couldn’t even download any Antivirus Program!
There are Freeware Antivirus Programs available, but these often do not have the ability to Scan for as many viruses. We suggest you buy a well known brand name of Antivirus Program and this will also include Virus definitions Updates. The Virus definitions are the Programs list of viruses, every time a new Virus is discovered it is added to this database.
You can’t rely upon old Virus Scanning Software you must make sure you continually update your Virus Scanner Program to be properly guarded from all forms of Viruses and Trojan Horses. Your computer is an expensive investment, so surely it is worth the extra money to properly protect it from Viruses.
We suggest you set up a schedule in the program to Scan the Computer on a regulary basis, and use a Program that has some sort of Resident Program running in the background. The Resident Program will notify you if any Files you are trying to open contain Viruses.
A Trojan Horse is a program that is installed on your Computer and provides a backdoor for other people to easily access your Computer. They can easily access your Documents and even watch you on your Webcam! Most Antivirus Software will also Detect these Trojan Horses.
