USING AUTO CAD

Auto CAD is a popular CAD Tool. CAD is used to Design Technical Drawings using your Computer. CAD is very popular these days, and the actual number of Drafting Boards in offices has fallen rapidly, because everyone uses their Computer.

CAD Software was originally developed to help with the Design of Aircraft, but it has now been adopted by virtually every Industry that needs some form of Design.

CAD Software is basically a Drafting Board on your Computer. Before you used to draw on a piece of paper, but now you can draw just using your Computer.

Drawing on your Computer has a number of advantages:

  • The Files are digital, so you can send them via E-mail (no more confusing faxes of Drawings).
  • The Drawings can easily be Edited, pieces can be Removed and Dimensions changed.
  • A Template Drawing can be modified slightly to form different parts.
  • You can print off another Copy if you lose it!.

There are different types of CAD Software, and the most popular Software is where you draw in 2D, and this is exactly like Technical Drawings in the past.

3D CAD Software is a much newer idea, using 3D CAD Software can identify any Design faults, before it goes into production. This also cuts out the need for any Prototype Scaled Down Models.

AutoCAD is mainly a 2D CAD Program, although some aspects of it are also converted into 3D with relevant Plug-ins.

Artists, Engineers, Electricians, Interior Designers, Architects all use CAD Software for their work. Interior Designers can plan out a complete room using CAD Software.

There are plenty of tutorials available on the Internet, that show you how to plan rooms at home, next time you decorate why don’t you try it ?

AutoCAD produces 2D views of objects. You draw in an item, and this only represents the item, the Drawings are Technical Drawings. In fact a lay person may have difficulty deciphering one of these Drawings, because you have to be able to visualise the item.

Think about a simple Bracket with one fold in it, and two holes in either end. Ok so you are imagining an ‘L’ shaped bit of Metal, or Wood, or whatever, but the Drawing will be a flattened out version of this.

Drawing in 2D CAD is a skill you have to flatten each component. The ‘L’ Shaped bracket will look like an ‘l’ with a dotted Fold Line in the middle and two holes either side.

On Technical Drawings not every dimension is given, because if it was then it would be far too confusing to read. Instead you used to have to sit down with a calculator to work out the missing values.

The beauty of CAD though is that you can use the Dimension Tool to measure each and every dimension, and then just delete them before you print it.

AutoCAD makes it very easy to Draw, add Dimensions and modify Drawings. The more practice you get at using a Tool like this, the faster you will get.

CAD Designers are in quite High demand at the moment. Learning CAD drawing is a good way to go, because CAD Drawing skills can be used for any Industry.
