HACKING YOUR MOBILE PHONEIf your Mobile Phone can be connected to your Computer then chances are it can be Hacked, but what exactly is Hacking ? Well Hacking is making your Phone do something that it shouldn’t be possible for it to do.
Quite often there are many hidden Features in Phones and these are restricted by either Manufacturers, or Phone Companies for a variety of different reasons.
There are hundreds of different types of Hacks, some more difficult than others. There are Hardware Hacks, and also Software Hacks. Hardware Hacks mean physically changing an aspect of the Phone, where as Software Hacking is just changing the Software in some way.
An early example of a Hardware Hack was to add a vibra-motor to a Nokia 3210, there was already a space Marked out for one on the circuit board, but for some reason one was never fitted. To do this Hack you had to open up the Phone, but you also had to Hack the Software, so that you got the option of vibrate in the Ring Tone setup.
Depending on your Mobile Phone there may be lots and lots of Hacks available or hardly any, or even none! It completely depends upon that individual Phone. To find out if there are Hacks available then why not search the Internet.
The easiest of Hacks is simply Unlocking your Phone, this is possible on virtually any Phone and just means removing the Sim lock that has been imposed on your Phone.
What are the sorts of Hacks I can expect to do to my Phone ?
Phones run Software much like any Computer does, if there is a problem with the Phone then the Software can be upgraded. The Phones Software is referred to as Firmware, and this Firmware can be upgraded by flashing your Phone with the most recent Firmware.
Normally you would have to take this to a Mobile Phone Shop to do this, however it is possible to do it yourself just using a Data Cable in many cases. But be warned, many of the Tools are only allowed for use by the Phone Companies Support Centres, it may be illegal to use it on your Computer.
By upgrading the Phones Firmware you can add or change the language of your Phone. Most of the Phones are identical in the entire world, so you could buy a cheap Chinese Phone, and just upgrade the Software to English.
Some Phones as we already mentioned have Hidden Features, perhaps things that are not working yet, or are only available on special Models. Examples of this include the Motorola V3 Video Camera this was disabled in early Versions, although people found plenty of ways around this and added it manually to their Phones.
The Motorola V3 has plenty of Hacks that you can do to it, you can change the Background Picture on the outer LCD, you can change the Layout of Menus, and you can even make the Volume louder than it is supposed to go.
Remember Hacking your Phone can brick your Phone! making it useless, just make sure you’re careful, if you have Problems while you are flashing your Phone and the process is interrupted, then it will probably destroy your Phone, and you will have a very stressful time trying to find out how to go about fixing it!
