Freeware is Software that the Programmer or Company is releasing for Free, don’t remember what your dad told you, some of the best things is sometimes a thing like a Free lunch.
The Software Companies don’t release Software for Free out of the goodness of their hearts forever, they release it for one of the following reasons:
- To promote other commercial Software.
- To build a name for themselves.
- To generate Website Traffic.
- As a form of Promotion.
- To make money from Spyware.
All of the reasons above with the exception of the last one are ok.
If a Company wants to sell you something by letting you test out a Freeware version first, what’s wrong with that ? You never have to upgrade if you don’t want to. It all makes sense.
The only time when it’s bad is when the Company just wants to make money from Adware/Spyware. Many companies will pay the people that produce Freeware to bundle it with some Adware or Spyware. This is why you should try to work out why the company wants to give you the Software for Free.
If the company wants to build a Brand Name, or try to sell another Commercial Product then they are very unlikely to include any Spyware. If they included Spyware then the Company and Software product would get the wrong type of attention.

Photoshop is the most popular Graphics Design Package, this quite obviously isn’t Free. If you need any of the advanced Tools in Photoshop then maybe you shouldn’t be looking at Freeware Software.
Although Freeware Software is quite good, it will probably never compare to that of Photoshop. If what you’re looking for is a simple Image Editing Program then we may be able to help you out.
Some of the popular Freeware Image Editing Programs available today are:
- Irfan view.
- ImageForge.
- VCW Vicman’s Photo Editor.
- Ultimate Paint.
- Picasa.
- Pixia.
- Sherif Photoplus.
Irfan View is a very simple Image Editing Program, you can use it to change pretty basic things about your Images and also create some quite impressive Slide Shows.
ImageForge is basically a bit better than Paint! It allows you to import Photos from a Scanner, and also has Paint Features. However this is just to try to get you to buy the commercial version of the Software.
Ultimate Paint is very similar to the old program created by Electronic Arts. The Freeware Version is just an old Version of the Commercial Version, and you are encouraged to upgrade.
Picassa is Google’s Image Editing Software it’s received a lot of publicity lately. One great Feature of this is that the Program automatically searches for all of your Pictures when you open the Program.
Sherif Photoplus is a very popular Commercial Program it’s been around for donkey’s years! However what you might not be aware of is that they are releasing the old versions of their Software for Free to try and encourage people to upgrade.
