If you are looking for a specific File to Download but have no idea, where you can Download it from where can you look ?

Well if you wanted to find a piece of information, but didn’t know from where you should turn ? We can almost hear you screaming “Search Engines” well yes of course, if you wanted to find some information then you would use Internet Search Engines.

You can use Search Engines to track down Downloads for the following reasons:

• It saves time navigating through different sites.
• You can get straight to the page that you want to.
• You can limit your results to a certain licence type.

So why can’t you use these same Search Engines to locate Downloads ? Well you can, actually you can find sites for pretty much anything with a Search Engine.

Just enter the name of the Software that you want to Download and use the + switch to indicate Downloads. In case you don’t know, the + switch is very useful, it forces the Search Engine to only display results that display that extra search term.

Your search string would be “Software name +download” and hopefully it will return a whole load of links for Download.

If there are two very similar subjects that get confused then you can also put – in the Search Engine to ignore any entries with that text.

If you want to search for “MP3 player +download –winamp” then the Search Engine will display al Search results for Downloading an MP3 player except Winamp.

Perhaps you don’t know the name of the Software, well just as long as you know what you want it to do you can still locate it in the same way. But often you won’t want to pay for the Software, well you’re in luck.

Lots of people write Software and release it as Freeware. Freeware are Programs that you are allowed to Download and use for Free, Freeware is available for everything.

If you want to find a Media Player that is Freeware then you can search for “Music player +freeware”.

There are also sites set up that are just dedicated Search Engines for Software. These sites have lots of different pieces of Software on them, and you can search to locate a specific type.

Dedicated Download Sites are especially useful because they break the Downloads into several different categories, you can just use one of these sites to browse through all the different Downloads and find something that you would like to Download.

Another form of File Search Engine is a P2P client, these are Peer to Peer clients, you can enter a File to search for and it will search on numerous different Computers for this File. If it finds it, then you will be able to download it.

The problem with Downloading from the Internet is that many of the Files are affected by Viruses or Spyware of some kind these can be very dangerous and damaging to your Computer.

Spyware has recently affected on of our contacts, and resulted in $ 200 going missing out of his paypal account, therefore it is important to Download from trusted sources, and also make sure you have a Virus Scanner installed.
