It seems these days every time we turn around we are under attack by a new Adware campaign, a piece of Spyware, and another Virus. Where does it end ? Here are 10 tips to keep your PC secure.
- Never open an attachment from someone you don’t know – Birthday Greetings, Thank You notes, and a host of other “friendly” greetings come packed with a Virus punch that will send your Computer into a Downward Spiral. So much for “friendly.”
- Never part with your Credit Card information on a site that you are unsure of. In fact if the site doesn’t begin with https:// don’t give out any of your personal information. The “s” indicates you are on a Secure Site.
- If it sounds too good to be true it is. If you are being enticed to sign up or accept something don’t unless you know enough about the site. Otherwise you could be giving away your personal information.
- Remember nothing is Free. Those Free screensavers, Free winks, Free whatever - generally you have to give them something in return. For any of you who have taken the time to read the user agreement you’ll discover that you are agreeing to let them install Spyware on your computer. That’s not free and it also invades your Privacy.
- Install a Firewall. We recommend both a Software firewall and a Hardware Firewall. Together the two give you optimum protection and you can configure your Software Firewall to meet your specific needs. You receive an urgent message that state a charge has been made against your Credit Card or that someone has logged into your account and then you are asked to click a link which takes you to a site that looks so much like the site they claim to be that you will never know the difference.
